4th of July Parade

The Cape May 4th of July parade has become a traditon for us. This was our third year. BP loves parades and loves them even more if she can be in them. She is perfectly comfortable waving and smiling to strangers. Whose child is she?

Unfortunately the parade was at 1:30 and BB slept through half of it. Daddy and BP did the whole thing, with BP pedaling her little bike down Beach Drive determined to make it to the end. I woke BB, and along with Uncle Matt and Aunt Cole, we booked down to the parade only to miss BP go by and then catch the very end. Oh well, better luck next year.

I know, I know she still has the nukie in her mouth. I am a terrible mother. She loves the thing. She sucks it like it is her job. It is leaving next week after our airplane trip. I promise! Any tips on taking it away after 20 months would greatly be appreciated.

Ugh, the girls look so cute. I'm glad you had a fun 4th! Let's get together soon.

No advice on the nukie. Sorry. But don't feel bad. I know lots of moms who can't bring themselves to take it away either. The kids really get attached. It's funny you call it a nukie... we always called it the bink. Is nukie a brand? Anyway, Buby had one in his crib until his second birthday. He associated it with bedtime. We'd taken it away several times before that but then he got really sick and didn't sleep for a week or had to undergo eye surgery or needed to fly on a plane (in which case the ped. said a bink--if he had one--would help a lot). And so each of those times we would cave and bring the bink back out from hiding to provide him some extra comfort. But then we started back at square one. Finally we realized if we wanted it gone we had to literally bury it so that none of us could reach for it in a moment of weakness. I'd heard my sis-in-law did this with my nephew Spencer... so we tried it, too. We buried the bink in the backyard when Buby was 24 months. We told Buby it was a big boy thing to do and let him be the one to throw it in the whole, when he was ready to say goodbye. We cheered and he was cool with it from that night on. That was 2 years ago and he still mentions "the burial ceremony" from time to time when we're in the backyard.

Bleu, on the other hand, would never take a bink. Honestly, I wish she had b/c I'm her only source of comfort when she's tired/hurt/scared and she probs would've slept better her first year if she had something to suck on at night. Other than me, that is. Good luck :)

Why does BB look like she has horns on in that last pic??? So funny. Don't get frustrated with the binky. She'll wake up on morning and will be done with it. No reason to stress...
