Banner Project

I posted about this project a couple weeks ago and here is my version I just finished the other night. I used Martha Stewart's bird stamps and green ink, which I found at Wal-Mart. I had no clue Martha had her stuff there. I chose three pretty pink and green fabrics and cut triangle with pinking shears. Then I sewed the trangles to pink seam binding. The last step was stamping the birds onto muslin triangles and sewing them onto the green triangles. The overall effect is fun and party-like and perfect for our playroom. Both my girls were giddy when they saw the banner hanging across the windows the next morning.

Operation: Block All Predators

In order to protect our garden project from all predators a.k.a. deer, rabbits, etc..., Daddy had to build a fence. It had to be at least 5 ft. tall and reinforced at the bottom to prevent the bunnies from digging under it. Just another step in our gardening endeavor. As Daddy says, "we are not planting a salad bar for the wildlife."

Of course BP was at his side all weekend to 'help' and inspect his work. Check out her outfit in the first picture... Snow White dress, John Deere hat, pink barn coat, and cow boots. She put this one together all by herself!

Sowing Seeds

The barefoot Princess planted seeds for the first time today. She planted beans, peas, pumpkins, sweet peas, and zinnias. She started with her gloves on, but quickly abandoned them to get her hands dirty. (I was not surprised...I always do the same thing)

So now we wait and say prayers that soon we will see little green sprouts in any of the six the trays we planted. Fingers crossed!

Building a "Reenhouse"

The other night The Barefoot Princess and her Daddy assembled the greenhouse our sweet neighbors let us borrow to start our seeds in for the garden. They heard we wanted to plant a garden with BP this year and came running over with a cardboard box at about 8 o'clock at night and said, "Here, use this." BP, who is taking this project very seriously, put together the metal and plastic frame and then added the wire trays. We covered it with what looks like a big plastic bag with a zipper door and, Tada, we now have a "reenhouse" in our sunroom!

From Sap to Syrup... We hope!

If you stand in our yard right now and you are very quiet, you may hear the pinging sound of sap hitting the metal buckets hanging from three of our maple trees. It is a beautiful rhythmic sound and it makes me smile becasue this is BP and her Daddy's little project. With a drill, five taps, five buckets and their fingers crossed they tapped three trees and have been collecting sap for two days now. Eventually, if the weather cooperates (cold nights and warm days are needed) they will boil the sap until we have syrup for our pancakes. Their is nothing like REAL maple syrup on pancakes. Once you have the real stuff you can never buy Aunt Jemima again!!! Their is no comparison.
This project is right up BP's alley. She loves to be outside and she loves to check the progress of her trees all day long. She even likes to taste the sap, which some people drink for energy, we recently learned. The Barefoot Baby comes along in her stroller and is slowly getting used to the great outdoors. (Being born in November didn't give her much outside time for the first few months of her life.)
I will take more pictures as the project progresses. I wish I could capture the excitement on BP's face as she runs to each tree and waits for us to pick her up and show her the sap. It is priceless and makes me want to stop time and keep her two and a half forever!
