There should seriously be a class for parents to take on this subject. I feel totally unprepared because The Barefoot Princess has decided it is time to toilet train... and we were not pushing the issue too soon. (We thought it would be a good idea to wait until after The Barefoot Baby arrives and we all get settled before starting potty training.) However, I think that since she has taken the initiative, we should follow through with it. It has been about a week that she has gone "pee-pee on the potty" as she says and even wakes us up at night to go. Today we took a day trip and I had to stop three times so she could go while we were driving. Each time I told her "you have to wait a second while mommy finds a potty" and each time she did. I find this new chapter of toddlerhood amazing!! The other amazing thing is we did not have to use candy or stickers or any kind of reward, just some good old praise. I thought for sure we would have to appeal to her sweet tooth with some M&M's eventually.
Above is a picture of the "potty" we purchased from Babies R Us, but The Barefoot Princess has never used...another strange thing, she insists on using the "big potty." I think I may put the little one in the car for emergencies. At what point do I have to go buy "big girl underwear" because I am really dreading that???

Ha! This is funny. And completely impressive. I can't believe she's waking up at night to go "pee pee on the potty." NOTHING wakes up Buby in the night. He'll be all potty trained during the day eventually, but I can see the nights being a lot trickier. He's a deep sleeper. We bought the exact same potty you show in white and also in red, and Buby won't even sit on it. He only likes his Elmo soft seat that sits on the big potty. Great idea, though, about putting it in the car for roadside stops. I was thinking about buying a travel potty from Burlington. I've seen them there. We got one travel potty that sits on the big toilet for Florida, and it totally collapsed under Buby and set him back about a week he was so terrified of getting back on it. So I'm on the hunt for something better. Good luck!!! Being a parent is like a comedy routine sometimes, isn't it? You never know what's next.
BP's potty attitude is so impressive! I can't believe she's so good at "holding it", too. I have a travel potty. No real need for it yet, but I purchased it several months ago. I'll show you on Friday, if you'd like. I'm so proud of BP.
Great job BP! We have stepped backwards for a while, L just started showing interest in the potty again yesterday. Maybe she can take some tips from BP on Friday.
Way to go BP -she must be ready if she is doing this all by herself - she is such a sweety.
